Hi guys!
I tried to expand the domain in order to ensure flat surface (so you know that the height is zero). But I was not able to create a mesh. I constantly got the same error message as I posted. Only when I used Ben’s original domain and adjusted the z-directions it was OK. I “hope” the stl-file is bad outside the domain Ben suggested otherwise I do not understand why this did not work. Anyway – I have run the case and it work fine. I used simpleFoam (right now I did not make it work on simpleWindFoam. But my Bolund case (without turbines) work fine at both simpleFoam and simpleWindFoam and they looks similar).

Ben – are you still on this case? I’m very interested in helping you since I’m learning a lot doing so. It is good to compare Bolund and Askervein.
Are you two also working with turbines?

Hi,snoppsnuske,i have a question, that is the terrain in the OpenFOAM1.7.1....../simpleWindFoam/turbinesiting is Askervein or Bolund? And how to translate the format of .xyz to the format of .stl? Thank you very much.

Hi Guys,

I am planning on doing a project related to the Askervein Hill over the next few months as a part of my Masters. Thing is, I can't get hold of a .stl file of the hill.

I have a limited amount of time to get the results and I would prefer to spend the time trying to get my RANS/LES hybrid model to work.

Any chance I could use the a .stl file one of you guys have used. It goes without saying it will be properly attributed and referenced.

Many Thanks,

Toby Collinson

Hello,
did you manage to find this STL file? I have found a small cloud of points in this web site:
http://code.google.com/p/fds-smv/sou...DS_Input_Files

which one can convert to an STL using surf2stl.m or stlwrite under Matlab.
But I am not sure if this the whole hill I am seeing there. The domain seems a bit coarse (129x129 points grid), and it looks smaller than what I usually see in theses/reports.
I would be very grateful if you could point me to another source where to get an STL of the hill!

Regards,

Carlos

you can use globalmapper to get stl file.

thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I do not have
access to any non-open source software :-(.
