Dear all,

I would like to simulate to flow around a 2D airfoil that oscillates at high angle of attack using pisoFoam. To do so, the first idea that came out of my mind was to keep the airfoil at is 0^o angle of attack and impose an unsteady condition on the upstream flow such as: U=U_{inf}[cos(alpha(t),sin(alpha(t),0], where the function alpha(t) is defined by the user.

Someone has any clues on how I should make this work?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

Look at GroovyBC ...

Olivier
P.S: what 's your final settings for airfoil simulation now ?

Hi All,
I also wanted to do simulation around 2d oscillating airfoil. I tried pimpleDymFoam with dynamic meshing. I used sixDoFRigidBody BC. I am getting the movement of airfoil but not what I wanted. I didnt try groovy BC. Will this groovy BC be useful..
Please someone suggest me ...I dont know whether I am going in the right direction.

Hello,

I also work on flapping foils, and at first I also thought to simply apply variable boundary velocities instead of moving the foil. Frank Bos, however, told me that this would give a very "stiff" system of equations, which is hard to solve.

Vinny, if you pass me your case with pimpleDyMFoam, I will take a look at it. You can mail it to snedige@yahoo.com.

Hi Flowris,
Thank you for the reply. I have sent you the pointDisplacement file through mail. I suppose this would help. Also it would be helpful if anyone tell me about groovy BC..

Sorry for my late response, I've been in a rush for the past weeks.

@olivierG: I'll post my case in the coming days

Up to now I've been investigating two promising solution:

  1. adapting the rigid grid motion to pisoFoam
  2. use mesh deformation as shown in the wing motion tutorial of pimpleDyFoam
FYI, you can find on the following address a FSI package that provides a oscillating wing sample. Even-tough it's does not work directly with the last release of OF, it provides good insight.

Thanks for sharing your ideas/progress!

Hi

This is my problem too. I can not import my mesh in OF because of problems. What is the main boundary condition for pitching airfoil?
