I want to solve the following problem:
Consider the problem of source-free heat conduction in an insulated rod whose ends are maintained at constant temperatures of 100 deg Centigrade and 50 deg Centigrade respectively. The length of the rod is 0.5 m. calculate the steady state temperature distribution in the rod. take thermal conductivity of rod is 1000 w/m/K. the diameter of the rod is 10 cm. The governing equation for the above problem is d/dx(kdT/dx) = 0;
1) my question is how to solve one dimensional problem in openfoam
2) which solver is suitable for the above problem
3) what modification should i do for the above problem

You can use scalarTransportFoam solver neglecting the convection and transient part. It's easy, and basic solver
laplacianFoam is suitable for thermal diffusion in a solid: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/LaplacianFoam
To solve a 1-D case, set the front, back, top and bottom patches to empty. Then set your left and right patches to fixedValue of the temperature you want.

i am new to open foam,i have gone thru the user guide and run some cases given in the tutorial.i was trying to run the laplacian foam,flange case but i was able to run the mesh only.Now what i want is to run for a simple geometry so that i can go thru in a more easier way.
can anyone upload an entire file(complete folder) to solve a steady state conduction problem for a simple geometry say a plate.
