Paraview: what are necessary files when copying OF result files to new directory

Hi,

I copied my OF result files to a new directory for later analysis. I also
  • created a foo.foam file there
  • soft linked the original system and constant directories (the mesh was built with blockMesh)
But I cannot visualize results with Paraview in that new directory. Paraview's object inspector shows the Cell Arrays, but the Mesh regions is empty.

What else does Paraview need?

Thanks,

Mirko

Hi,
try this out in you case folder:
"touch foo.foam"
then try to import it to paraview (you'll need a newer version of paraview; don't now exactly starting from which version paraview can directly import .foam files)

you can convert your files to VTK with foamToVTK function.

but you will just waste time and use free space, it is not needed anymore with the newer versions of paraview :)

Ciao,

Thanks, I already had that.

I rechecked my files, and added a few missing things. Now I can see the mesh, but not the fields.

I looked into paraview's documentation, but could not find info on what exactly paraview needs to view OF results.

I solved my problem by going the other route - I just don't move the files around :-)

What is the purpose of the VTK files? Is it to view the results using other post-processing software?

Thanks
