Geometry preparation and post pro
some tips from you:
1. Geometry preparation: how do you separate different regions of a .stl file to different names to assign different boundary/mesh conditions? Any free tool to do that or do we need a proper cad? What about paraview?
2. If you run foamToVTK you will find these regions inside the VTK folder contained in many directories. To load the whole geometry in paraview you should enter every folder and load the file. Any way to do that in a single step?
1) I heard that ANSA can do it, but this is commercial, do not know a free tool.
2) It is a guess what I propose (paraview macro that is extended by python scripting)

About point 1: just wondering how people who uses cfd on their own have managed to solve the problem without having to afford any expensive commercial software…
i was at a presentation at icon, from this presentation I heard that they used ANSA (at first) and reprogrammed or licencend that for their commercial tool FOAMpro MESH http://www.iconcfd.com/en/icon-foampro-mesh
Also I heared at this presentation that solidworks should be able to export this kind of STL's but you have to contact solidworks to get this function. It is not directly in the core product (has been said)
