Hi Martin,

I am a beginer in openfoam as well as cfd. I wanted to somulate a stedy state compressible flow through a bent tube using the rhoSimpleFoam solver. My problem is the solver crashes after a few time time steps with the following error

Time = 186
smoothSolver: Solving for Ux, Initial residual = 0.00992166, Final residual = 0.000578669, No Iterations 4

Could you kindly help me out with understanding this error??

I dont know why but i am not able to upload my case directories on the forum. If you want to have alook at them i can send them to you via email.

Would be great to get some help from you.

Regards
Abhinay

I see that I am 6 years late to this discussion, however, thought I would add my 2 cents, coming from the experimental (wind tunnel) side of the house. :)

To the best of my knowledge, still, few CFD codes can reproduce transonic results well. The aero is just funny, to put it simply, in this regime - particularly right around 1.0M (say 0.93-1.05 in general). That being said, I would believe CFD, including OF, has come a long way in covering this regime since 2009, particularly with the density-based solvers.

Just some food for thought. Does anyone know of reports showing correlation of OF results (with the more recent versions) against older OF code or even wind tunnel data?

Hi all

I'm also new to OpenFOAM, and obviously late to this discussion.

But anyone visiting this thread late, may want to look at another, more recent thread.

These guys have progressed a solver that can deal with transonic flow, and supersonic. Yet to fully try it, but I will be.
