Combine snappyHexMesh with existing mesh

Hello All,

I was wondering if there is anyway to use snappyHexMesh (sHM) in conjunction with an existing mesh?

I have a structured multi-block mesh that I created in Pointwise. At present the mesh only extends slightly beyond the boundary layer. The complexity of the geometry I am working with makes it difficult to "fill" the remainder of the domain with blocks. Also the range of flow orientations required means that I would need to re-mesh several times to keep the cells more or less aligned with the flow. I also need to think about the wake refinement for each of the flow orientations. There is the option of using tetrahedral cells to "fill" the remainder of the domain. I just had the idea that there might be a way to use sHM instead - especially now that there is feature handling in 2.0.*.

Has anyone tried anything like this before?

Regards,
D.

For me it looks like that polyDualMesh is the right tool for you

polyDualMesh: Creates the dual of a polyMesh, e.g. can be used to generate a “honeycomb” polyhedral mesh from a tetrahedral mesh.
