ParaView to KiwiViewer (iPad)

Hi Guys,

I've a short question:

How can I export a File from ParaView to KwiViewer.

Greetings donuwe,

I'm not certain that you'll be able to see anything other then the geometry itself, but according to the description on their front-page, you can use the VTK files. For that, in ParaView you can export data to VTK (File->Save...?).

If it's OpenFOAM results, run:

Code:

foamToVTK

It'll create a folder named "VTK".

For more options:

foamToVTK -help

That sounds about right. KiwiViewer will read vtk files. The only downside is transferring the files to the iPad. You will need to create a dropbox account or e-mail the file to yourself.

I must say I was impressed by how smooth the viewer is. I hope they add some more functionality in the future. Some sort of layer control would be great.

I have used paraview to generate AVI movies of transient simulation results, then on the iPad use OPlayerHD lite which can view native AVI's without needing to convert to another format. There is a free version of this app which has small banner ads, or can be purchased to get rid of the ads. The nice thing is that OPlayer supports wifi transfer of AVI files to the ipad, so you don't need to use dropbox, itunes or anything like that

Hi, KiwiViewer developer here...

You can use ParaView to export your data for KiwiViewer. With your data selected in ParaView, you can go to the Information tab and look at the data Type. If it says Polygonal Mesh, then the data is suitable for KiwiViewer. If it is Unstructured Grid or Multi-block Dataset, then you will have to apply some filters to convert the data.

For Multi-block Dataset, apply the Merge Blocks filter to convert the data to Unstructured Grid. Next, with Unstructured Grid data, apply the Extract Surface filter to convert the data to Polygonal Mesh.

Now, with the Polygonal Mesh selected you can use File -> Save Data to save out to a format that KiwiViewer can read- vtp, vtk, stl, obj, etc.

Finally, as Goncalo points out, you can get the data into KiwiViewer through email or DropBox. For more information, you can visit:
