Friends,

I am trying to figure out the best way to determine the vortex core.

Can some one tell me an efficient way to do it. I am using OpenFOAM for my simlation and paraview for post-processing.

Hi.

Have you already checked out the vorticity or Lambda2 postprocessing tools?

Thanks for the reply. I did check out the function in openFoam ( Lambda2). What I observed was that, plotting of Lambda2 in paraview displays the vortex in a better way than a axial velocity or mean velocity contour.

I was wondering if it is possible to locate the center of the vortex may be a streamline going through the center at different chord lengths etc. Is there anything I can do with this data to capture that streamline.

Hi. I don't know if such a feature exist, but again i don't know everything of OF or paraview.

on the other hand, i know that Techplot360 does exactly this, it marks the center of a vortex based on the lamda2 or Q criterion with a streamline.

might be worth a try, it is not too expensive, and you can ask them for a demo licence. they are quite nice.
