grayscale contour plot (2D)

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone out there have suggestions on grayscale 2D contour plots? I am trying to show velocity contours through a granular media, and it is really difficult to see what is going on using the default grayscale colormaps. I tried making my own, but they don't look any better. They best way to see the contrast between the contours is to use a color colormap and then to convert it to grayscale using lumnosity, but then it can be confusing to see which is the low value and which is the high, because they are very similar gray colors.

Any suggestions?
