Integrating over a surface

Hello all,

I am new to using paraview and I am having some trouble in trying to integrate over a surface. I am not sure as to how to extract a selection and then apply integrate variables filter on it.

A step by step walkthrough or tutorial on how to use it will be of great help. I did some extensive search on the internet and was really not able to find a solution.

Thank you in advance,
Kaushik

Hi Kaushik,

I am assuming that you have a volumetric mesh. When you turn on the "Surface" representation mode and you select on the surface displayed, ParaView will still select volumetric cells that intersect the surface and the area you selected. To integrate over a surface, you first need to extract it. If you want to extract the external surface of a dataset, apply the Extract Surface filter. You can now select a subset of this surface and apply the Extract Selection filter to extract it. You can then apply Integrate Variables to integrate over this surface. I hope this helps.

Berk,

Thank you for your suggestion. When I try to select cells on a surface, the program hangs and I am unable to proceed. I think I am doing something wrong. If you don't mind can you give a step by step solution as to what I must do.

Thank you
Kaushik

Hi Simbha,

Selection should never hang so there is an issue. Can you send me a sample dataset (berk dot geveci @ kitware dot com) and some steps to reproduce this?
