Paraview rendering

Hi all,

I am using PV for making nice rendering videos.

Since the beginning I am wondering why the rendering is not performed of the GPU... instead the rendering is calculated by the CPU. Thats very slow and I want to know if its possible to set up Paraview to use the GPU instead of the CPU?

Or in a other way! Is paraview rendering always so slow? Well I know it depend on the system but my computer is a very performance maschine.

Maybe there are some ideas, hints or suggestions :)

Thanks in advance
Tobi

Hi Tobi,

 Rendering? In what exact sense? Is it rendering with textures or with rendering data?
And which exact version of ParaView are you using and how did you exactly install it or build it?

I ask this because AFAIK, ParaView uses the GPU by default! If by any chance it's using CPU only, then it's because you didn't install properly the graphics card drivers! ;)

The other possibility is that it's taking so long because you left the rendering delay turned on - search in the following page for "Lock Interactive Render": http://www.paraview.org/Wiki/ParaVie...Guide/Settings

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

like you know I am using OF :)
And then I am making volume - rendering with paraview (thirdparty - 3.12.0 64bit).

For 1000 pictures with a mesh of about 700.000 cells it took me 6 hours.

Hi Tobi,

 I forgot about Volume Rendering... I've always had strange issues with it...

OK, for that particular feature, I'd suggest that you try ParaView 3.98.1, which you can get a working binary from the official website: http://www.paraview.org/paraview/resources/software.php
Keep in mind to not have the OpenFOAM shell environment active when using this ParaView version. There have been some reports on the forum that there can be some harmful(1) collisions of system Qt4 libraries vs the Qt4 libraries packaged in the pre-built ParaView.

(1) in the sense that ParaView won't work very well, or even if it can start.

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

thanks for your replay.
I ll test the volume-rendering with the latest version.

But I think there is no change. But I ll have a look at the GPU Temperature/Load

I ll report the news!
