Dear Foamers,
I have a question about streamlines. I know how to control them in paraview, but I wonder if it is possible to confine them to a certain wall/patch distance just using paraview? I already have described my problem here:

http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...reamlines.html

Thanks for any help!

Best regards
Julian

Greetings Julian,

I had to read the other thread, in order to understand what you meant: you want the streamlines only on the patch surface. I was initially thinking you were referring to restraining the streamlines for a certain distance from a patch.

In ParaView has got "Surface LIC" (or "SurfaceLIC"), a special plug-in that can represent streamlines on surfaces. You can find some information about this here on the CFD-Online forums if you search for it. The thread on this topic that I'm most familiar with is this one: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/par...ic-plugin.html

Best regards,
Bruno

I want to do, what is explained in the OF 2.2.0 patch notes:

http://www.openfoam.org/version2.2.0...processing.php

(=> see: new wallBoundedStreamLine - creates streamlines in VTK format to show near-wall flow, as shown for the motorbike tutorial case)

As explained in the other threat, this does not work in my case.

That indeed is an interesting tool. Just tried it and fiddled around a bit.
I applied it to my object surface patch and loaded the according velocity.
Seems to work and give me these LIC streamlines. I just wonder, is it the same as the wallBoundedStreamlines? Anyway, I just want to show separated flow regions, so with wallGradU this should be possible to do.

Thanks again and best regards
Julian
