Default Defining New Varables

A relative newbie Paraview question. In Ensight I use the calculator to define essentially a new variable, such as degrees F as computed from K. I've done that in Paraview but it doesn't seem to then be available to use. ?
Works at the NASA Glenn GVIS Lab.
Other projects include the Mars Opera and the AZooNY Band
