Default paraview to pstscript

Hello collegues,

Recently I started to use paraview, and it is indeed a fantastic viewer. But I was disappointed when I learned it doesn't export the figures files to eps/ps formats. But it seems the older versions used to do that, the old manuals on the net discuss that. Can some one give me the trick to obtain psotscript file, in an easy to understand language. Most of the documents which are near to my request use C++ language, which I am ignorant of.

My main objective is to use to get high quality graphics from paraview in my thesis, for which I am using a latex editor.

I appreciate your help.

Can you use a screen capture utility like KSnapshot? It should get you what you want but would be cumbersome for many images.

Can you dump to another format then convert to ps? I just looked on my system. Paraview 2.4 exports to tiff & Redhat has a tiff2ps converter.

Pauli,

Thank you for the prompt response. I feared the snapshot would not be of good quality. But in the absence of other alternative I will snapshot it to tiff and convert it to ps as you suggested. But it is a pity these feature is not available (print to ps/eps) in paraview itself, while it is still a great software.

Regards,

Tilek

Did you try looking in Visit or Mayavi to see if they support exporting to postscript format. You can export your data to vtk format from paraview if its not in that format and visuvalize in both of those packages.

You can save as PDF which is a vector format just like eps. You can use PDF or convert it to eps. I prefer PDF because the files are more compact and I can directly use them in pdflatex to directly produce pdf; much better than doing ps and convert to pdf.
