Using Paraview in High School
 

Hi everyone...
I am going to be a math/physics teacher. Before starting the job I had some time to kill so I did an internship at a big company that produces and develops propellors etc for ships. I was part of the development team and wrote a programm that modified .case files.

Next week I will do some stuff about meshes with my students, so I thought about the idea of introducing them to paraview. The problem is that I do not have a lot of sample files and most of them are copyrighted by the company I was working for.

Does anyone know where to find good looking sample files for paraview (no matter if ensight (gold), starcd, stl ...).

Searching the web did not result in any good results, except for a cube I found on a physics site.

These are in plot3D and cgns formats but maybe they can be imported to paraview. I've never tried and not sure what exactly is in the files being offered at these sites.

There is a low fidelity shuttle model (along with other geometries) at
http://www.nas.nasa.gov/Resources/datasets.html
and they mention solution file.

There is also an unstructured yf17 (along with other geometries) at
http://cgns.sourceforge.net/CGNSFiles.html
not sure if solution data is included or not.

Thanks for the links... tried some out, but unfortunatly paraview does not seem able to handle them.

hi. if you want to send me some ftp server coordinates, i might have some fluent basic cases that i might send you

they might not be perfect, or extreamely fancy, but there is lot of colours in them ^__^

(2d foil, 3d wing, dam break, flow over a house, lid driven cavity, etc...)

Thanks for the offer. I do not have an ftp-server available. How big are we talking? Won't it be possible to send it via email or upload it onto a mediafire account?

Anyhow I downloaded the GLC-Viewer from sourceforge and use it to look at 3D-Models from archive3d.net.

You can download a LiveDVD from http://www.caelinux.com/, then, boot up your computer from the LiveDVD. Run some tutorials from OpenFOAM. Then, type "foamToVTK" to convert the case/results to vtk format. After that, you can run paraview from the LiveDVD if you like, or copy them to a flash drive.

hi there. every fluent simulation consist of a .cas and .dat files. the dimension of those coupled files is actually pretty big and very dipending on the geometry (say from 100 mb up to 800).

i don't know mediafire, but i might try some uploading services of your choiche, provided that they are free.

(megaupload, etc...)
