I, too, am using v3.4 and when I do "Save as a case" from the VR Editor, it saves a .gif, .pat, .q1, .phi, and .res files. So it seems to be there...

Patti,

thanks for the response but all I get saved is a q1 file.

Anyone else out there got any ideas. Bye the way this 'problem' also occurs when I load, run and save library cases!

It seems as though I have not set a generic save switch.

Any comments

I didn't mention that the Save As A Case must be done after completing a run. (not aborting it)

Patti,

Thanks for your continued help. After a little more delving I found that I would only get the phi files etc. stored in the current working directory. Hence there was not a nut loose in front of the screen but a minor problem with the software!. CHAM too have been kind enough to investiagte my problem and have said it will be fixed in the next upgrade.

Interesting though how others too did not note similar problems or issues with storage/saving outside of the current (parent) working directory!

Thanks CHAM and Patti

Mark,

I am using Pv3.3 and I have developed a way around this problem.

I do all of my work in the parent directory of phoenics, copy the q1 files as they are finshed as a backup to the server.

When I complete a run I copy all the files onto the sever as the back up or burn the files stright to CD. When I need to rerun a modell I copy the entire contents of the backup directory into the perant directory. This way I limit the possibilities for errors from the user and from phoenics.

Hope this helps.

Leon

Can I make a suggestion?

Here at Flowsolve we find it convenient always to keep all the files together in the working directory. This avoids the problems referred to in this discussion. (Of course, they can be backed up to an archive - but that is a separate matter.)

It is not however necessary for the working directory to be a subdirectory of Phoenics. We think in fact that it is much better to have an entirely separate directory, elsewhere in the tree from Phoenics, labelled something like "projects". Then you can have individual subdirectories of this for each individual project.

All you need to do then is to arrange for there to be a separate ikon on the desktop for each project subdirectory. When this ikon is clicked, it (1) makes this subdirectory the Phoenics working directory, and (2) loads VR. To achieve this, simply copy and paste a copy of the Phoenics ikon onto the desktop. Then rename this new ikon, and amend the "Properties" (by right-clicking the ikon) to make the "start-in" directory refer to your project subdirectory.

This is very easy to do, absolutely reliable, and keeps your work entirely clear of Phoenics itself.
