The energy conservation in a case of phase change
 
Hi,friends:

I am simulating a two-phase flow case that there is a phase-change procedure.I know the energy transfer from the bulk to the interface by setting PHINT(H1 or H2) and CINT(H1 or H2).But I don't know how to keep the energy conservation in PHOENICS when phase change happen.Thank you for your help in advance

This is going to be complicated and so you had better be working in terms of enthalpy instead of temperature, although that means that you will need to convert to temperature for the diffusion terms. Incidently you will also need soem additional physics to account for the changing mass and hence momentum between the phases

There are a number of papers through the years in Numerical Heat Transfer and other journals on how to set this up- although it is not PHOENICS specific. Look for papers by Beckermann (at Univ. Iowa) and his students- Ni, Wang, and others for starters. For example this *may* help but may not:

Ni & Beckermann, 1991, A volume-averaged two-phase model for transport phenomena during solidification, Metall. Trans. B, 22B, p. 349-361.

We had this general model coded in PHOENICS a few years back but convergence is tricky with so much non-linear feedback. It turned out to be a VERY compute intensive problem. I am not in a position to revisit that issue- but Ni's paper may be of some use.
