Who study the plasma problem
 
Hello,everyone:

i am a beginner,now studing plasma problem by PHEONICS 3.4.I don't know how find the similar question in PHOENICS help.Who can help me and give me some hint.Thank you. Anyone have the same study realm with me.Can we talk about it by email?

I had used the phoenics to simulate the plasma torch already, can you tell where are you from? and we can contact with each other further.

A useful PHOENICS-based reference is given below. A special-purpose module for PHOENICS has been developed by the University of Liverpool (ref: THIPPES)

I attach an extract from:- Computer Simulation and Optimisation Tools for High Pressure Plasma Engineering Systems - M T C Fang and J D Yan, Liverpool University, UK

"High pressure plasmas are frequently employed as a key component in a number of plasma engineering systems, such as joining (welding), cutting, and surface treatment of materials, material synthesis, steel industry, waste management especially the destruction of hazard materials, and high power switchgear.

High pressure plasmas are commonly known as thermal plasmas or arcs, which can be described by Navier Stokes equations modified to take account of radiation transport, electric power input and the effects of electromagnetic field on the plasma motion. The interaction between the plasma and electrodes (cathode and anode) is included. Temperature rise of electrodes or work piece can be calculated simultaneously with the plasma. Turbulence enhanced momentum and energy transport is an added option. For certain devices such as circuit breakers, the movement of electrodes is also considered. The effects of arc radiation induced ablation of inner surface of containing vessel have strong influence on the characteristics of some arc devices. An extra equation is introduced to account for ablation.

The package assumes axisymmetry. It gives the detailed results of velocity, temperature, pressure, and electromagnetic fields. These results can easily be visualised and the effects of changing one design parameters clearly demonstrated. Optimisation of design can be carried out with ease on a PC.

The simulation tools are based on the intensive research on fundamental processes occurring in high pressure arcs in the last 25 years at the Liverpool University within the Group headed by Professor Michael T C Fang. These tools have been successfully applied to circuit breaker design and to the investigation of welding arcs. They are equally applicable to other arc devices as the basic physical principles are the same.

Mr Peter Spalding: Thanks your answer. Can you give me more information about this module? Where can I find the relative materials? If it has the proof edition (or university edition) p.s. i am using phoenix 3.4 version

Hi Linda,

This is JNM, am doing Bachelor of engineering (mechanical) and am in last phase of my course. Am doing project work to complete my course and i had select the topic of simulation of plasma arc welding and shielding gas influences. i need a help. am beginner of ansys and i need to now how to simulate the model and procedure .
