outlet conditions

Hello everybody! I am a beginner and I'm trying to write a q1 file in PIL. my case is : single room with a fire and i'm following the example from the library. I cant't understand why the velocities at the outlet are all set to 0.0.

outlet(venta,low, etc...) value(venta,p1,0.0) value(venta, u1,0.0) value(venta,v1,0.0) value(venta,w1,0.0) Pls help!

Re: outlet conditions

The specified velocity values are external velocity values. They are only used in the event that inflow (Pexternal > Pin-cell) is predicted through the outflow boundary. A zero value means that an incoming momentum is considered negligible, which in general may not be the case.

If outflow is predicted (Pexternal < Pin-cell) through the outlet boundary, then the in-cell velocity values are convected out of the solution domain.

Re: outlet conditions

It would appear that the 'oultet' is set up like an opening (think open window).

With this in mind air, smoke would leave the room only when there is a suffcient increase in pressure in the room relative to atmosphere to drive the hot gasses out of the room.

hope this helps.
