Is it possible to convert Pro/Engineer files into phoenics ? I've been trying to save them as STL files but they're not loading up in Phoenics. Ideally I would like to use Pro/E, but if it's not possible then I will have to use autocad, I've been trying this too but it doesn't seem to work. I have converted my Pro/E files into autocad and converted the cad file into DXF format, DXF is the only option on my version of CAD, however, this doesn't work either. Any ideas ?

Carla,

How are you trying to import the geometry into Phoenics?

I have concrens about the conversions from pro/E to AutoCad to dxf. The AutoCad drawings needs to be constructed in a particular way for the dxf export to work correctly, from memory the points need to be constructed in a clockwise rotation. This has to do with how AutoCad handles 3d shapes and is painfull. This is most likely causing the problems with this import.

I have exported may shapes from AutoCad and other packages to stl format with very little problems.

My advise is to start off with a simple shape, like a bar or a donut then create the stl then import it into Phoenics and slowly building up to more complex geometries.

Hope this helps,

Leon

which version of autocad you have ?i don;t think is possible only dxfout and not stlout!!!!!!!!!! if you want to export your dxf file and import to phoenics you have to do the following steps:

1.you create only surfaces or solids in autocad (by commands revsurf revolve...) 2.you ''explode'' by the command explode the surfaces and the result is existance of multiple faces 3.after your design has ONLY 3dfaces (careful this step) you are ready to export the drawing by dxfout in a ascii or binary format i don;t remember (check dxf options in dialog box). MOST PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEM CAUSE THEY DON;T CREATE 3DFACES. PHOENICS NEEDS 3DFACES INDEPENDENT IF THEIR POINTS ARE IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION OR NOT. IF THE PROBLEM INSISTS SEND ME YOUR CAD FILE AT aerodynamifun@hotmail.com and i'll fix it.
