Help with Library Case I107

I am investigating the library case I107. It deals with emissions from a carpark exhaust, and the flow around various buildings in the same domain.

As part of the provided Q1 file it talks about swichting off the buoyancy patch that needs to be done from command mode (buoyancy = skip).

Could some one please direct me to the command mode and how to type this command in. I usually run PV3.5.1 from the VR Editor and I am not familiar with the command mode.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help with Library Case I107

Hi Leon,

I just loaded this case to take a look. It seems that buoyancy is not activated therefore there will be no buoyancy patch, so its a misleading comment.

But to try and help address your query, I can tell you what I would do :

Load the case in the VReditor. Switch on buoyancy as usual through the sources patch. The model will now have a buoyancy patch like

PATCH(BUOYANCY,PHASEM, 1, 13, ........... 1, 1) COVAL(BUOYANCY,U1 , FIXFLU , GRND2 ) COVAL(BUOYANCY,V1 , FIXFLU , GRND2 ) COVAL(BUOYANCY,W1 , FIXFLU , GRND2 )

If this had been the case when you loaded the Q1, you can obviously deactivate this by switching bouyancy off through the menu.

Alternatively, if you just wanted to deactivate this patch whilst leaving the PIL code in the Q1, you can use the command "buoyancy=skip".

(I think this command stems from the older days, when Q1's where largely hand edited and would save the user from having to physically write the patch/coval back into the Q1 if decided to reactivate, or as a reminder whatever).

However its still a useful command.

What I would do to apply this command, (if I were using VRE), is to open the Q1 file from within the VRE: FILE-> OPEN FILE FOR EDITING-> Q1 Then underneath the patch type (buoyancy=skip) :

PATCH(BUOYANCY,PHASEM, 1, 13, ..........) COVAL(BUOYANCY,U1 , FIXFLU , GRND2 ) COVAL(BUOYANCY,V1 , FIXFLU , GRND2 ) COVAL(BUOYANCY,W1 , FIXFLU , GRND2 ) BUOYANCY=SKIP

Then save the file, reload and away you go.

Hope this helps

Mick,

Thanks for your help. What you described is excatly what I thought I should do. But without the pacth in the q1 file I thought I was going a bit crazy or there was something fundemental that I was missing.

Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.
