STATIC or TOTAL?
 

Hi!Can anybody explain me the difference between the choises STATIC and TOTAL when solving the temperature equation?(I am intrested in thermal comfort and analysis inside buildings)

The STATIC temperature equation includes a DP/Dt source term, the TOTAL does not. So for low speed flows around buildings it will not make any difference which temperature equation you choose, however for high mach number flows static should be chosen.

How high a Mach number do you mean by High?

Sorry PattiMichelle, I have no idea at what speed might be appropriate as a cut off point, but its an interesting question if I find anything relevant I will try and remember to post it.

In fact I could not even write down the extra term in the equation properly, DP/DT w.r.t TEMP not time, but I'm sure that you realised. I was just trying to say that this term is important in higher speed flows and hence has to be taken into account to get temperatures correct. Genrally though for flow around building etc it is not important.
