Plate heat exchanger modeling
Hi, I am trying to model flow between parallel plates. However the velocity and temperature profile are not consistent with theoretical one. If anyone did such a model, can you give me the dimensions of the plates and the boundary conditions. Thanks

Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
From your description it sounds like you are trying to simulate plane channel flow. There are turbulent flow examples in the turbulence model section of the PHOENICS flow library of examples. I believe that there is also a library example for laminar fully-developed flow in a plane channel.

Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
hello sir,
i am planning to model plater heat exchanger, can u give me details of ur model with regards santosh tatepalli |
Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
It is 2D flow. I am trying to solve milk protein deposition on the surface. I need velocity, temperature profile and mass transfer at the boundary layer. This program is difficult to understand for me. I am trying from simple case without mass transfer. Thanks for your offer. Regards Ozlem

Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
Hello sir,
you may fabricate plate heat exchanger for practical validation ,then you can compare with simulation readings using Fluent . s.suresh. |
Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
Dear Ozlem,
For me there is still no clear statement of your problem, ie laminar or turbulent flow, thermal boundary conditions, nature of the discepancy with theoretical results, etc. There have been several applications of PHOENICS to plate-heat exchangers, including: Kim S & Mills AF. Modeling of perforated plate heat exchangers. The PHOENICS Journal of Computational Fluid Dynamics and its Applications, Vol. 4 No. 1, pp 1-26, 1991. 91/11 Beale SB. Laminar fully developed flow and heat transfer in an off set rectangular plate-fin surface. The PHOENICS journal of Computational Fluid Dynamics and its Applications, Vol. 3, No 1, pp 1-38, 1990. 90/ I mention these papers because they appear in the PHOENICS Journal, which should contain the input and any ground files. I hope this helps. |
Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
hello. How can we model a flow over a "fin with different temps." in ansys in order to find flows temprature & find mean "h"?? thanks.

Re: Plate heat exchanger modeling
You can find a comparison in Int J. Heat and Mass Transfer. 48, 15, 2005, pp. 3256-3260. There is good agreement between the CFD results (using PHOENICS) and the traditional solution for the eigenvalue problem.
