Structured Meshing of Wing Surface

2 Attachment(s)
Dear pointwise users,
Hello everyone. I am currently trying to mesh a VAWT using entirely structured mesh. One of the problems is the meshing of wing surface at the end of blade. I am attaching a screenshot.Attachment 21933

As you can see from the picture, the quality of the meshing is very low. I tried to use the solve feature of pointwise. But still the quality of the meshing is very bad. Attachment 21934

Could anyone give me a hint about it? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Airfoils with sharp trail edges are always tricky and even more so for structured meshes. Here's the topology approach I use:

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I am afraid if I am asking too much. I am a new pointwise user. Could you please give a little description of the methodology. Again Thanks.

Naruto,

Attached is a graphical description of my general procedure. I didn't mention that you should start with an upper and lower connector with the same dimension. In my case, I started with 81 points.

Hi Chris apologies for not opening a new thread. Your graphical description of the internal airfoil mesh helped me a lot as i am doing a similar case. Is it possible to extrude airfoil at an angle in pointwise? I have an airfoil with a 40deg sweep angle. Is it possible to create the sweep angle through extrusion in poinwise? If so any help will be much appreciated.

Yes.

Select the domains or connectors to extrude and use:
  • Create, Extrude, Translate... for a linear extrusion in any Direction
  • Create, Extrude, Rotate... for a rotational extrusion in around any Axis
  • Create, Extrude, Path... for an arbitrary extrusion along any connector Path.
