hi,
I am an undergraduate student. In my thesis I want to do CFD analysis. For a hydrofoil I want to create a hemispherical 3D domain using oo topology. Please someone give me tutorial or hints about this. The domain will be like given picture.
Thank you

zakir212,

This should be doable using the hyperbolic extrusion however whether it's "doable" is a strong function of the hydrofoil shape and the structured surface mesh you put on it.

Two particular items make hyperbolic extrusions difficult for *foil shapes:

1) sharp trailing edges
2) shape of the hydrofoil tip

Really, you can boil both of those are just one item: high turning angles between adjacent surfaces. The hyperbolic extrusion is sensitive to size of the elements - actually the change in the size - around an edge with a high turning angle. It uses an size weighted averaging to compute the direction of the normal, therefore if one is larger than the other side, the normal will be pulled in that direction. It becomes more sensitive the higher the turning angle.

Post an image of your hydrofoil if you want more specific tips.
