Hi everyone,

I am trying to mesh around a 2D airfoil using the extrusion command within a circle (as seen in the first image). I dont succeed in doing this since the created "circular" mesh fall outside the circle specified. Anyone know how I can specify the circle as boundary and mesh around the foil (with a varying step size thus since the distance to the circle is not the same everywhere in the domain, as seen in the second image). Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

It's going to difficult/impossible to have the hyperbolic extrusion result in analytic farfield boundaries (circles or semi-circles). It's an initial value problem and thus the solution, i.e. the outer boundary location and shape, is not known until it solved.

The question I have is does it really need to be circular? For an external flow problem like I an airfoil, I would argue no. Put your time to better use.

If you're really insistent, then create the circular boundary, assemble the O-grid and use the elliptic solver to attempt to a similar quality mesh.

Thanks for your reply. I received help from the Pointwise support desk which resulted in the mesh I wanted (which indeed needed a circular mesh for rotation and translation purposes within a larger domain).

Thanks for your reply. I received help from the Pointwise support desk which resulted in the mesh I wanted using a different approach (which indeed needed a circular mesh for rotation and translation purposes within a larger domain).
