Dear All,

I am trying to generate a block mesh around the wing with slotted flap. There exists gap between flap and the wing surface. While trying to initialize the block, Pointwise give some error saying "One or more entities could not be initialized". I attached my mesh picture as well here.

Is there anyway to overcome this problem?

I also tried to generate the boundary layer around the wing. However, while doing extrusion about the wing surface, Pointwise also gave some error command. How can I generate the boundary layermesh around this slotted flap?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Note: I am still learning how to use Pointwise.

Apologies for the slow reply. What type of mesh is on the wing and flap (struct or uns)? If it's unstructured, is it a diagonalized structured mesh?

I used structured mesh in both the wing and flap.

You used structured quads on the wing surfaces but then get a "cannot be initialized" error message which is usually from the unstructured tet mesher. So I'm going to infer that you're either trying to make a completely tet block or used T-Rex to extrude a near-wall layer. The problem with both is that you're going to get a pyramid element off each quad and then immediately transition to tets. In my opinion, that's just not going to work. (If I'm understanding you correctly.)

If you really need structured quads on the wing surface you're probably better off generating a completely block structured grid. On the other hand, if you generate unstructured tri meshes on the surface, then you'll have much better luck with either tet extrusion (aka T-Rex) or a full uns tet mesh.

Also, in either case you may be better off filling the gap between the flaps and the wing manually so that the mesh from the wing to the farfield begins with a geometrically uniform shape.

Hope this helps.
