Hi,

I am very impressed with Pointwise overall and suggest this software to everybody. One thing that has quite troubled me is that I can not find an option to re-dimension all the connector together to be able to do mesh dependency study for a particular code. Say I have to half the number of cells - so I would like to multiply each connector dimension with ~ 0.8

Does anyone know about it(or some other way of doing this in Pointwise) around here?

Thanks
M

is it structured? , if so then up in the top menu, (I'm really struggling to remember this off the top of my head) in the Grid / Dimension menu, you can change the one connector ,and then PW rattles through and selects all the adjacent connectors and then changing the master changes all of them. (but that is just in the one direction (IJK)

But I'm sure you can select multiple connectors with Ctrl + select , and redimension them all together.....

Hey Nickul,

Thanks for replying. Yes I can select all the connectors and dimension them but I am talking about giving it a factor..this way it gives same dimension to all the connectors.

For e.g. I would like 10x4 domain to become 20x8 domain...doing what you have suggested will give me 20x20 or 8x8 domain.

I cant see an option for that.

Thanks
M

oh I see, you want some kind of parameter functionality.

Time for a glyph perhaps? I've just had a quick scroll through, and there is not much on the PW website, but perhaps you could hack the myDistribution glyph around ?

"myDistribution
A sample of how you can write a connector grid point distribution function."

A glph or some journaling recording-modifications-replay can certantly do the trick.

Instead, given that sometimes i'm lazy, i do tend to dimension the connectors in function of the spacing, more than the number of points.

Of course this depend on the geometry.

If it is not too complex you can even hand pick the connectors that shows the same points on the menu on the left and redimension by hand in group

If you are even more lazy than that, most cfd sw that i know of can perform a local or general cell refinement (fluent, OF, CFX, not sure about starccm)

Thanks guys...its time to do some gylph scripting then.

My geometry is complex...and I need to do mesh dependency studies..where you need to double up number of cells and reduce \Deltas proportionally.

Yes, my suggestion would be to script this, particularly if you want to use non-integer refinement values.

If your mesh is structured, one tip I will give is to add some logic to the script to check for and fix unbalancing of domains and blocks. This might happen when you have an edge in domain defined by more than one connector. Because of rounding, when you refine an edge with a differing number of connectors than it's opposing edge, it may become unbalanced.

Another tip would be to be careful about connectors will the "general" distribution function. If a connector dist func is general, it won't update like the other distribution functions and you may not get the result you're looking for if you refine it. This is because general is not really a distribution function. A connector's dist func gets set to general when curvature-based refinement or the orthogonal BC in the elliptic solver is used.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions about how to go about doing this and/or Glyph scripting in general.
