a) all patches are 'polyPatch'

a) all patches are 'polyPatch' (base type). So any fvPatchField type that only needs a polyPatch will run happily (unless an explicit check has been coded)

Check your boundary file (constant/polyMesh/boundary). It might have preserved any settings from FoamX. Delete it and rerun blockMesh.
