I think Hrvoje answered this, something like you cannot do two mesh modifiers at a time...as in the patches that you want to merge are intersecting..so you probably have to do one direction...

I went back to the blockMeshDct file and re-defined correctly the order of the nodes in the patches to be merged. That meant that I got rid of the open cells but I am still left with the...

You´re right. Should fix whatever I messed up in the ordering of the nodes of the faces that I want to merge. To start with...
