This is a bit late (I don't always have time to get back to CFD online threads), but hopefully you figured out how to adjust the edge params to have fewer parameters but the same intial distribution....

ICEM CFD's create mesh density doesn't apply to Patch dependent 2D meshes, so make sure you have your surface mesh method set to "Patch Independent".
