Attached are the results for my 3D run of the S809 airfoil.

M=0.1, Re=2.0e6 (based on chord), alpha=15, fully turbulent SA.

My grid is a C grid with 300 cells along chord (I) direction (50...

Unfortunately I'm not close enough at the moment to the local university to access the paper. And when searching for it, there doesn't seem to be a public version available. When I get a chance...

Just for fun I ran Aero Troll CFD (http://www.hegedusaero.com/software.html) on the S809 (Mach=0.10, Re=2e6, fully turbulent SA, characteristic B.C., incoming turb=0.1, C grid, farfield distance=50...

OK, so I think that is the solver you need to use. I believe there is an explicit (uncoupled) and implicit (coupled) solver. The best bet is probably to go with the implicit solver, at least for...

There should be a way to set the Courant (CFL) number. The CFL number is usually constant throughout the domain and the actual time step a cell uses is then based on this number and the cell size. ...

I have never used Fluent so the comments I make are either a result of what I've heard or read, or what I guess. Each CFD code is very unique in how they implement things. CFD is much more of an...

I think it is best to use the pressure-based method with a compressible solver. For me, it doesn't make sense to have a characteristic B.C. with incompressible flow.

I gather at this point that the question is why the characteristic B.C. (i.e. pressure-far-field) is having issues converging. A characteristic B.C. should be valid for any shaped compressible outer...

OK, so I gather you are using a density based method, i.e. compressible, since you are using a characteristic B.C. (i.e. pressure far field). I also assume Fluent's density based method has the...

Hi didiean (http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/members/didiean.html),

I'm not sure what the issue is with the outer B.C. I'm also not a Fluent user so I can't comment on the details of the B.C. I...

Your grid seems to be reasonable. One thing you can try at some point is to move your outer grid even further, i.e. 100 times. You'll see a small difference, but definitely not enough to make up...
