blockMesh will only do hexes a

blockMesh will only do hexes and some pyramids etc for you - in order to create dodecahedra, you can either use polyDualMesh (Mattijs can tell you more) or use an external mesh generator.

I thought a dodecahedron is a polyhedron (it is), which rather answers your question. OpenFOAM mesh classes support arbitrary polyhedral including the ones you mention.
