Friends?

For those of us unfamiliar with Facebook and the like, what are Friends? In particular what are the consequences of accepting or rejecting Friend requests?

You can find some information in the forum FAQ here: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/faq...iends_contacts

Thanks for the link (which I had seen) but it talks about how to start and stop being Friends but not what a Friend is. What happens when you are a Friend? For example, do I get notified when Friends post? Perhaps I should just click a few times and see what happens but I am used to looking at the written word in order to learn efficiently.

Aside from the social meaning of "friend" that page describes just what being a friend means on the forum: "Your friends and contacts are displayed on the 'Contacts and Friends' page in your User Panel. Your friends are also displayed in your profile page."

Thanks for the clarification. It would seem I have incorrectly assumed that Friends are something more than they seem to be.
