Using multiple cores
I am pretty new at using STAR-CCM+ and noticed while running a simulation that only one of my four cores was being used. Is this a license issue? I tried running the simulation using the parallel option but it gave me errors and wouldn't run. Am I doing something wrong or is there a different type of license needed to run the program on multiple cores? I appreciate any help!

You can check how many license that you have using the lmtools (or maybe other people is using it?)
If you have enough license and still cannot run it in parallel, then easiest is to contact CD-Adapco support directly. |
It depends on the license type. Some licenses can be used to run on up to 16 processors. maybe your license is for just one processor ( however that is weird).

With STAR-CCM+, there are two types of licenses:
1) Standard... this will let you do all the pre+post processing (including meshing) and run the simulation on 1 core 2) Power session.... this will let you do all of teh above but on unlimited cores. If you have a power session, you need to check the "Powe session" box when opening your simulation |
Additional to rwryne's post:
For every simulation, you need either ONE CCMP suite license or a power session license. The CCMP suite license can also be used to run on additional cores when you have more than one CCMP suite available. And there's also a cheap HPC license available, which can only be used to run additional cores together with one CCMP suite. |
