Extracting Surface Mesh from 2D Simulation (deforming also)

Hey All,

I have a 2D mesh that I am imposing a deformation upon based on control points that I have prescribed (the geometry is valve-like structure). I would like to extract the surface of the 2D mesh and then remsesh it because the cells are starting to become slightly skewed due to the large deformation.

I know StarCCM+ can extract a 3D surface mesh, but it doesn't seem to work properly with the 2D geometry. For example, I have tried to extract the 2D surface and it seems to work; but then when I import it back into StarCCM+ nothing comes up - it's as if nothing as been imported. Is anyone familiar with this? I am currently using version 7.04.011.

Furthermore, I would then like to map the solution of the old geometry to the newly remeshed geometry.

Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
John

There seems to be no direct way to go back from a 2d mesh. Even importing into prostar is not possible.

The workaround is to use the mesh converters from OpenFoam (ccm26ToFoam) then 2dto3d ...
When I tried this I ended up with some vertices somewhere in space and decides to start the meshing from scratch.

Thanks for the information, Joern. I'll keep trying.
