hi @ all,

i never used radiation in star cmm+ and the tutorials do not exactly cover my problem, so i thought you could help me

i want to simulate an crucible partly filled with molten aluminium (picture attached)

this partly filled state forces me to consider radiation because the air in the upper part of the crucible is an pretty good isolation between the liquid aluminium and the first/fourth layer of the walls in the upper part without heat radiation

so how do i do this?

i only want to simulate the heat radiation from the liquid aluminium through the air to the first/fourth layer of the walls in the upper part of the crucible

heat radiation in the rest of the crucible is taken into consideration by heat resistance and heat transfer coefficents

emissivities of liquid aluimium and the first/fourth layer are know to me

so i thought i activate the radiation only in the air physics and assign the emissivities to the corresponding interfaces

is this the correct approach? any other ideas?

any help would be great
thanks

Hi
If you use S2S and then gray thermal, then you do not consider the radiation effect on the fluid ( aluminum). You have a hot surface that will radiate the heat to the upper parts.
Therefore, seems to me that you already have the case you need.
