star ccm+, overset mesh

Does anybody know if I can apply mesh deformation and body motion to a overset region? I want to run FSI simulation on a oscillating plate, the body motion is used to make the overset mesh move with the boundary while the mesh deformation is used to account for the boundary deformation.

Hey Carlen

You can activate a DFBI Morpher in Tools-Motion and apply the morpher constraints at appropriate boundaries. I am not sure but STAR CCM+ should allow the overset to be used with DFBI Morpher.

Can you give me more details about the problem?

Hey ggulgulia.
Thank you for your reply. I am trying to model a oscillating plate (flapping wing) using FSI technique. The overset outer region is used to account for the large rotational motion of the plate around its rotating axis while the inner region enclosing the boundary is for accounting the geometric morphing of the plate.

Yes, you can do this. I've done morphing hot solids floating on an air jet before, similar to your problem.

Hey Carlen

I just realised it could be done. You just need to apply appropriate conditions at the boundaries and of course I suppose you are using abaqus.
