SIGSEGV: memory access exception

Hi everyone I am a new user, I surface meshed my model and tried to volume mesh it during the volume mesh process it keeps giving me this error,"SIGSEGV: memory access exception" does anyone know what it means or what I should do, Thanks

This error is primarily due to the inability of the computer to handle the size of the mesh.

How big is your surface mesh? The best way to get rid of this is to decrease the size of the mesh. Are you using a 64 bit machine? Also if you have wrapped the surface and then remeshed it you could get rid of the wrapped surface, then go to mesh continua and deactivate teh surface wrapper and remesher. Once you do this continue running your volume mesh.

thanks for helping me,the size of surface mesh is about 5 milimeter, i didn't wrappe the surface.I just imported my solid model from SOLIDWORK and tryed to surfacemesh and volume mesh it.I made my solid model in a way that i don't need to surface wrapp it.should I decrease the surface mesh?cuz I already have about 500,000 surface meshs.thanks

If you are running in a computer with good RAM and memory you should be able to easily handle half a million surface elements. From personal experience we have handled surface mesh sizes upto even 8 - 10 million on our (64 bit 16 GB RAM) computers. What is your computer's configuration? Have you tried it on a Linux machine?

Did you check all the surface repair parameters? Is the surface all clean??

Do you have a 64Bit version of CCM?
You also could split the regions and mesh per region.
But first check the import mesh.

I am running the 64bit version, and imported form a high quality CAD model and the surface repair reported no errors in the mesh with 'n minimum quality set to 0.

But this happened when I changed the base size that caused the prism layer to become smaller than 2mm. when I enlarged to the prism layer to above 2mm again the error "SIGSEGV: memory access exception" disappeared and I was able to generate a very fine mesh that was inline with my computers hardware.

Is there a limit to prism layer size?

I would use absolute sizes by the prism layer thickness.
Normally there is no limit.
How many cells you have?
Did you look for the memory while doing the mesh?

The memory is not the problem, and I only have 1,000,000 cells (and I have checked the memory). This error only occurs when the bottom subsurface prism mesh is running, and only with some prism layer thicknesses.

You checked your mesh with the CCM test?

I would try to use "clear" sizes, I think you maybe have sizes where it isn't possible for the software do create a mesh.
It often happens when you work with percent.

Yes i have cheched the surface mesh and it came out clean, but I think you are right about the software that cant create a mesh in certain areas, I will double check the prism parameters and use clear sizes.

Make bigger cell sizes and only the prism layer like you want it, use absolut sizes

that SGEV memory error appears, if there are any interfaces present in the model when prism generation involved. Go to interface and click on the option of generating prisms from both the sides of the interface to overcome this error.

2) It could also appear during prism subsurface generation, if the subsurface is penetrating with any of the surfaces present in the domain, then this error might appear.

Better thing is, if this error appears, first go to repair tool and check the mesh that if the sub-surface is penetrating with any of the surfaces in the domain.

Hi there,
I just had the same error and came to the observation that the error only occurs when a graphic window with a scalar scene is open. Maybe this helps someone or maybe just myself in a little time.
