Parallel processing in Star CCM+

Hi

I am trying to get parallel processing over multiple windows 32-bit machines. I have tried to play a bit with mpich and mpich2 but I can't figure out how to get it to work. I have tried to make the same mpich accounts on both machines as suggested in another thread - both an error message shows up: "Server process ended unexpectedly (return code 0).

The simulation is started with:
"starccm+ -server -on PC1,PC2"

Any clues?

Add "-collab" to the end of your start command. This will work assuming your firewall and MPICH is configured correctly.

I have tried with and without -collab added to the end - I think it is in the mpich-part something is messed up - but I can not figure out what it is. Any guidelines to how it should be configured?

Yeah, register the same user and password in MPIRegister.exe, which is in:
Program Files\MPICH\mpd\bin\

Do the above on all computers, and use the MPICH provided with the Star-CCM+ installer.

Also, for the sake of testing, disable your Windows or third-party firewall. You can setup exceptions later if this works.

Keep the -collab switch.

Check the checkbox to have the controller on local host ('-master PC1', will be added to your starting command for example)

Write back on how things go ... or contact adapco support.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to get it to work. I had not realised the fact that it was the Windows User Account I had to code into MPIRegister.

So the process is:
1) Set up the same user account on all machines with the same password.
2) Code the windows user account and pw into MPIRegister on all machines.
3) Start the simulation with the above mentioned command
