new in star CCM+

hi,

I am just stared using starCCM,
I have 3 D proE model of a turbomachine.
But now i am unable to define parts and meshing and simulations.

Please if anybody has good example of best tutorials or any document please guide,

Thanks

Chk out control valve meshing tutorial

hi

Thanks,

Just now., i am practising the same tutorial

other than this if you have any excellent tutorial or document please share

thanks

hi

hi

just now, i am following that tutorial to my problem (turbomachinery)

i know very well icem and CFX

compare to that i want to make parts and 3 domain body.
how to make it in starccm i am unable to do.

please guide

Hi,

Please refer the solidification tutorial (ice forming) it explain how to create multiple domains, also for region creation in an imported geometry again refer control valve tutorial.

If you are familiar with ICEM and still have access to it I would suggest you use it for meshing after creating proper blocking, if you want structured meshing, because as such I was not very impressed with auto hexa mesh generator which creates something similar though not of that quality.

hi

thanks

I learnt alot from that tutorial
like how to prepare parts as we do in ICEM

but still i am unable to make proper region.

Actually i am simulating a centrifugal pump, contain a stationary domain called casing and a rotating domain called impeller

when i am importing iges, it is always coming three region trmsrf 1,2 and 3
1 contain all domain stationary as well as rotating and
trmsrf 2 and 3 are interface surfaces.

so how shoud i go ahead, i am unable to decide.

Please guide me.

thanks

hi

in continuousnation with above problem

i am doing meshing of a 3D ractangular block,
i started with parts, now i did generate volume mesh

but it is not visible, how to see the volume mesh?

Right click in the display area

Apply representation and click on volume mesh

hi

hello

please back to the pump problem , i am now imported pump iges file from surface mesh. and selected region part.

I am here attached a photograph of the situation, please lok to the output window.
I did surface topology, it is showing "Region TRM_SRF contained only one topological region and was not split." like this i m getting the msg.

Actually you can see from the figure that i have to have three regions, why , because i made 2 interfaces,
it is like water is entering from inlet, i.e. inlet extention and then 1 interface.
now water moves towards impeller and this is 2nd domain, inbetween impeller and casing their is one interface, we define as frozen rotor in CFX.

how to split region, i am unable to solve it.
please guide and also i want to know why trmsrf 1 and 2 is for.
actually that trmsrf is nothing but two interfaces.

thanks

hi

i learnt something from the tutorial
still i am unable to split the region.
but fortunately, i found that if i make domain separately in the 3D model in proe and import to surface mesh in starccm.

i am able to solve my requirement.

is it the best way?
or something else that i can do?

nitin1685 April 26, 2011 06:34

hi

hi

i have now done with meshing
now as we do frozen rotor for rotating and stationary domains, interfaces

likewise, i want to do in starccm+,

how to do it?

i have prepared the interfacecs (inplace)

i am following that rotating frame tutorial.
also plz tell me, how to define rotation of the impeller?

which is the best BC for pumps
i am using mass flow inlet and pressure outlet.

please guide

thanks

I checked the control valve tutorial but I don't think it covered what you talked about the region creation.

I wonder how to create another region from a imported geometry because I want to create a porous media region which should be part of the imported geometry. However, it's continuous when I made this geometry using solidworks.

Thanks,
