STAR CCM output file
Hi, I'm new in Star CCM+ and i'd like to know if the software gives an output file and if so, how to read it. I mean, I want to know the value for example of temperature in every node I've meshed my element.
Thanks Pietro |

For your example, you can create a table (Tools->Tables) and export it to CSV. It would be of X,Y,Z, T format |
The default output just contains values for your residuals and user created monitors.
It's possible to export the solution to a csv file, like rwryne suggested. But it will be a huge file, depending on your cell count. There will be one value for every cell of your volume mesh. I can't imagine any case to use this except mapping (please correct me when I'm wrong) - but for this case, there might be easier ways. When you need values for only a low number of points, it might be easier to do it with point probes/ line probes / presentation grids. |
Thank you all very much! My purpose infact is to obtain the temperature map of some surfaces of one body, and to export it to a FEM software, like Nastran. So I'd like to associate the temperature to the nodes in such a way that the FEM software recognize it automatically. Have you ever had cases like this?

You can export your NASTRAN mesh as a *.BDF file and import it directly into STAR (File->Import->Import CAE Model) and then use data mappers (under Tools) to map the data to the NASTRAN mesh. Then you can export the data directly back onto the BDF and import it back into Patran (assuming that is what you are using for your preprocessor). Give these basic instructions a try and let me know if you need help on specific steps. |
Thank you very much, I'll try soon! I'll let you know if there are problems!

One thing I forgot to mention is that the export process for NASTRAN files has been under development for the past few versions. Which version of STAR are you using? For example, you could not export temperatures in version...5.02 I think? |

What if my boundary is curved? Is the only option to export the boundary temperature data? |
When your boundary is curved, it's not flat.
You can export any vector or scalar from CCM+. |
