What is the difference between "Parcel streams" and "Particle count" in STAR-CCM+

Hi frnds,

Can anyone explain me what is the difference between Parcel stream and particle count in STAR-CCM+. How do I know the exact number of particles in any system ???

With regards,

CS

The parcel streams refer to the number of parcels that is simulated by Lagrangian model. But if you want to see the number of particles entering to the system, look at the injector part to find it out. If you want to know how many particles do exist in all the region, select track model in lagrangian models, then add the track model after simulation to the Tools/track.

Thank you very much for the answer.

I want to know one more thing. If I want to fill 50% of certain region (e.g., cylindrical drum) with the particles then how it will be possible to do that. How do I calculate the number of particles needed for the fill up and what are the options in STAR-CCM+ we have. Could you please help me out regarding this issue.

With regards,

Hi Chandi,

I think the best option is to use DEM ( discrete element method ). Without DEM you don't get the right particle-particle interactions by default. A good DEM tutorial is given in the help.

best regards

Hi Everybody,

Can anyone help me about how I can see the "Particles" instead of "Parcels" in scalar scene ???
Actually, I want to see the mixing efficiency in a rotating drum with two materials of different size. So how do it possible in scalar scene ??

With thanks and regards,

Chandi
