Regarding simulatiing Magnus Principle

HI
Can anybody simulated Magnus Turbine in STAR-CCM+.If so could you please share the methodology. Or Atleast anybody know how to set rotation as well as translation to the Same Region (Same zone) which is rotating about its own axis and translating about a Different axis Thanks in Advance seenai |

I have not simulated the problem, but I can point you in the right direction. Yes, Star-CCM+ is capable of simulating such motion. You will have to run a transient simulation with rigid motion (not moving reference frames). The additional rotation of the blades can be done by superposition (look up "Superposing Additional Rigid Rotations" in the help file). You should also read up on "Using Overset Meshes," which should save you some time.
However, before all of the above, go through the motion tutorials in the help file. |

Thanks allot for your mail.I have done few projects on rotating turbines, but my concern is if i want to set a rotation as well as translation to a single region ( rotation of the cylinder is about its own axis and translation is about some other axis) do we need write UDF's for this? Srinivas |

After looking through the help file further, looks like there's an even simpler way to do this (no need to superpose movements, which only works for rotations, anyway). There's a moving option called "Rotation And Translation," look it up in the help file for more info.
