Problems with es-ice in linux and modelling of the valve profile

Hello,

I'm new with star-cd and es-ice. My first problem is, that I can not start es-ice in linux (OpenSuse 12.2, 64 Bit). Here is the text from the bash:

"error while loading shared libraries: libXm.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I already checked if openmotif is installed and thats ok. Thats the reason why I run es-ice in Windows XP (32 Bit) and so I come to the secound problem. I try to run the tutorial for es-ice and stop in chapter 3 at the Point "Modelling the Valves" with the error:

"mesh2010 failed to run correctly"

This error occurs after clicking the "create profile"-button in the "Create valve profile"-template.

I hope that somebody can help me .

Best regards

Marco

I guess your star cd version is 4.18.
you can try "Defining a Valve Manually" as seen in chapter 5 of es-ice user guide, which is the conventional method in older version eg. star cd v 4.16.

I cannot continued with the tutorial by this problem. I do not know what is wrong? Someone can help me?

Hello Skylent and gamadordiaz,

first thanks for your reply to my thread. Unfortunatly I could not try the manual valve definition until now because I was in trouble with other things. On the other hand I have the chance to run CONVERGE and this is much more comfortable to handle than Star CD. If I work with Es-ICE again and find a solution I will post it here.

Hello Marco,

about your problem dealing with the libXm.so.3. I've installed the libmoti3 with:

Code:

sudo apt-get install libmotif3
which worked for me

Hello Users,
now I'm back in the project. I solved the problem with the installation of es-ice in opensuse 12.2. If I type in a shell "user@host;linux64_2.6-x86-glibc_2.3.4-gcc_4.4.3-ifort_11.0/bin: ldd es-ice", then I get the message that the path for libXm.so.3 was not found. If I type in "ls -l" in the files were the libXm.xo.3 exists (/usr/X11R6/lib64/ and /usr/lib64) I get the info that it links to the 32-bit libaries (/usr/lib/libXm.so.3). To solve the problem I installed the package "openmotif22-libs-2.2.4-192.1.3.x86_64.rpm" what you can find here: http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=libXm.so.3%28%29%2864bit%29
Now the system is running and I hope that I can solve the second problem with the help of skylent.

Best regards
Marco

Now I can run es-ice with opensuse 64-bit and the valve modeling works well. So the second problem is solved to.

Thanks for your help and best regards.
Marco
