SU2 v3 installation - tecio.dll missing

Hello,
I have downloaded the latest 32bit installation for windows and receive the following error upon running SU2_CFD.exe:

"The program can't start because tecio.dll is missing from your computer......"

su2.stanford.edu/download/v3.0.0/SU2-3.0.000-32-bit-Single-threaded.exe

(I chose the 32bit version due to problems with the previous 64bit version - libiomp5md.dll missing)

Please let me have any guidance to avoid missing dll files.

Kind regards, Tim

Hi,

I'm trying to install v3.0.0(Single-threaded) in my Windows 7 x64 machine but I have the same problem as Tim wrote:
"The program can't start because tecio.dll is missing from your computer......"

I have noticed that the bin folder is not created and the executable files(SU2_CFD, SU2_DDC etc.) are installed in the destination folder.
Does the installer work as expected?

Best Regards,
Fumiya

Hi,
I have compiled the SU2 V3.0.0 via cygwin in windows 7 x64 machine successfully. May be try that way.

I have tried to install cygwin in my windows. However, the same error occurs. Do you have any idea how else can I solve this problem?

I had the same problem. I think what's happening is that SU2 is looking for a Tecplot .dll file. I installed the trial version of Tecplot 360 in order to get the tecio.dll file on my system and now I am able to run SU2_CFD.

I installled Tecplot on my windows. After that, SU2 works really fine after installing it.

Hi All ~

Please use the 64-bit installer for 64-bit systems; there will likely be numerous incompatibilities with libraries and a performance penalty using the 32-bit versions on 64-bit system. With regards to the tecio library, the correct version should install into the same place as SU2_CFD.exe. I will double-check the installer file and post an updated version if, for some reason, this is not the case. In the meantime, the tecio library appropriate to either platform can be downloaded for free from Tecplot's site. Thanks for reporting this issue to us.

Thank you Aberkk
Installing the Tecplot trial version worked.
Kind regards, Tim

tecio library for Windows could not be found on Tecplot website

I had the same issue with missing tecio.dll and was not able to find the Windows version of the tecio library on the Tecplot website only the Linux and OSX versions. This meant installing a trial version of Tecplot 360 to solve the problem.

Hi,

I have been following this thread and the steps provided. I have installed the Tecplot 360 but when I run the 'SU2_CFD.exe' a black window tries to pop-up but finally nothing happens. (I'm running the x64 version on Windows7).

Any hint about this issue will be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hi all,

I have the same problem as stated before, but installing the trial version of Tecplot 360 on my Windows (I use Win7x32) has not solved the problem. When I try to run SU2 I still get the error message that tecio.dll is missing. Does anyone have a suggestion what might be a possible solution?

Thanks in advance!

btracey March 13, 2014 18:05

Did you provide a config file to the executable?

ITA91 March 14, 2014 06:33

Yes, I was trying to perform the Quick Start Tutorial and I followed all the steps provided there. The installation went fine, no problems there. The problem starts when I want to perform step 2 of "Running SUČ", no matter where I place the .cfg file.

btracey March 14, 2014 10:06

Sorry, what I meant to ask was if you passed the config file as a command-line argument. It should be

SU2_CFD config.cfg

ITA91 March 14, 2014 15:12

Yes, when I enter "SU2_CFD inv_NACA0012.cfg" in Console in the correct file it gives the error that "tecio.dll" is missing.

You have to correctly install Tecplot at first

ITA91 March 15, 2014 11:05

As adviced, I have installed a trial version of Tecplot 360, which works fine. I had no difficulties with installing Tecplot 360. Are there any more steps to be taken after installation?

ITA91 March 17, 2014 14:47

I have tried to install SU2 using cygwin, but then it gave another error. After trying it again the normal way everything worked as it should. I think that it has got something to do with that I've installed Tecplot 360 after installing SU2 the first time, which was the other way around this time, like Tommy Chen mentioned. Thanks!

Are you from ITA brazil?

Hi all,

Same problem here. I'm running on 32 bit, hence I can not download or use the Tecplot trial.

Did anyone find a workaround?>

Install a Trial version of Tecplot 360. Your license will only work for a couple days, but on your computer the tecio.dll will be installed which allows SU2 to work even beyond the trial duration.

That is expected behavior. It is because by double clicking you do not specify what Config file it should evaluate.

Try this, where I assume your config file such as inv_NACA0012.cfg is located in this folder: C:\SU2\

In Command prompt, enter:

C:\SU2\SU2_CFD inv_NACA0012.cfg

that's right, there is a "space" in between SU2_CFD and inv_NACA0012.cfg

Let me know if you get results now
