I'm optimizing the symmetric NACA 0012. The constraint is based on thickness.

But when I use SU2_GEO. SU2 is evaluating the thickness of the airfoil as 0.

These are my Geometry Evaluation Parameters


GEO_MARKER= ( airfoil )
% Geometrical evaluation mode (FUNCTION, GRADIENT)
GEO_MODE= FUNCTION



Please help me with this.

my guess is, that you must uncomment this:


%GEO_DESCRIPTION= AIRFOIL

Hi, thanks for the input. Even if uncomment it. The results are the same.


%GEO_DESCRIPTION= AIRFOIL


SU2_GEO fails to evaluate the thickness.


And I can't apply any constraints under "OPT_CONSTRAINT=" for the optimisation.

Hi,


I tried you input file on my 2D mesh (just airfoil and pressure far field boundaries) and it works. I uncoment thate option what I adviced. But I also commented



%MARKER_SYM = (symmetry)


I guess your case is 2D as well and there is not symmetry plane.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I think you are using the full geometry of NACA 0012. My case is symmetric.

So, If I uncomment it:

%MARKER_SYM = (symmetry)

The following error shows up:

The configuration file doesn't have any definition for marker symmetry

OK. Maybe this is the cause of your problem. It might be that SU2_GEO is not prepared to calculate thickness of an airfoil modeled as symmetric case.

Yes, you are right. When using SU2_GEO it fails to calculate AIRFOIL_THICKNESS, AIRFOIL_TOC etc.

So I can not constraint the optimisation.
