Hello,

I am interested in using SU2 to simulate blood flow through an artery with a periodic pressure wave representing the pulsing of the heart. I was hoping to utilize the fluid structure interaction capabilities in SU2 if possible. I have looked through some of the documentation on the mesh deformation. Has any one had any experience with mesh deformation and fsi with SU2? I also don't even know if this is feasible with SU2 right now.

Hi Andrew,
In fact there is a very preliminary implementation of a FSI solver in SU2. Unfortunately nobody in our group is working currently in FSI and the capability has not been documented.

If you look for
void FluidStructureIteration(COutput *output, CIntegration ***integration_container, CGeometry ***geometry_container, CSolution ****solution_container, CNumerics *****solver_container, CConfig **config_container, CSurfaceMovement **surface_movement, CVolumetricMovement **grid_movement, CFreeFormChunk*** chunk, unsigned long ExtIter)

in the solver you will identify the different pieces (fluid solver and grid deformation subroutines).

Hey Francisco,

I'm from the PP (propulsion and power) group of the technical university of Delft. You probably know from colleagues that we are building a vapour tunnel (ORCHID) where we will soon be able to do experiments with models.

Thus I am interested in the physical models available in SU2 for structural mechanics problems. As a user I would like know if functionality has been extended for FSI problems. I know there is a group at imperial that has just started extending capabilities. The documents i'v read seem to have used SU2 for the CFD and used an API to a structural solver.

Any information about developments would be warmly welcome.

In addition I think there is some 2D analysis that can be accessed with the FLUID_STRUCTURE setting. You'll need to look at the code for more detail on what is going on there and what settings are required.
We are also working on our own API for fluid-structure interaction, but that is not ready yet.
