foamToSU2
Dear All,
I have a foam mesh. It is a 2D mesh (actually, OpenFOAM treats 2D as 3D with empty BC in 3rd direction) and I would like to convert it into SU2 mesh format (cgns is good, too). Have you ever thought about such a converter? Is it available somewhere? Thanks a lot, Samuele |
For benchmarking purposes I'm also very interested in conversion of OpenFOAM meshes to SU2 and vice versa. The problem that arises when converting two-dimensional SU2 meshes to OpenFOAM can be handled with the onboard utility "extrude2DMesh" (the description reads "Takes 2D mesh (all faces 2 points only, no front and back faces) and creates a 3D mesh by extruding with specified thickness")
The ways I have tried so far was using CGNS as intermediate format, however since SU2 uses CGNS version 3 and the OpenFOAM turbomachinery contrib "cgnsToFoam" is based on version 2.5, the files don't seem to be compatible. Has anyone successfully converted a mesh between OpenFOAM and SU2 in either direction? |
I've been having the same issue as pjohannes183, as I'm looking into the capabilities of SU2 for my Master's thesis. It would be very beneficial to benchmark SU2 against OpenFoam for instance. Has anyone managed to do the conversion from SU2 into OpenFoam?

You have dreamed about it, and I did it! :o)
I have done a python tool that allows the conversion from OpenFoam to SU2 (2D and 3D meshes) Everything is explained in the post "Tool to convert OpenFoam mesh to SU2 mesh (2D and 3D)" in the "SU2" forum: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/su2...tml#post465933 Hope it will be helpful! Laurent |
